Lost iphone and trying to locate it, how is that possible?

Contact Apple. Might have a trace ability if it is on.

CALL your IPhone NUMBER from another phone.

When I can't find something, I keep looking for it.

Just sign on to icloud.com from any browser and use find my iphone to make it beep or even with iphones it will show you on map where its located.

Using features supplied with the iPhone, assuming you activated them and the phone is on:
Go to any computer connected to the internet, access your iCloud account and "Find my iPhone".

If the above is not possible, the you do it the old fashioned way: Look for it.

If you lost your iPhone, you can locate it IF the following conditions are met…

1) iPhone MUST be ON -- You can't locate the phone if it's OFF OR if the battery is dead.

2) Location services (GPS) MUST be ON -- While GPS is ALWAYS available for 911 services, all other services MUST ask for permission to utilize it.

3) You MUST have some form of data services (Wi-Fi and / or Cellular Data) enabled -- Your phone needs a way to send it's GPS data to you.

4) You MUST have the Apple ID associated with the phone -- You have to prove that you legitimately own the phone (which the Apple ID login serves as proof).

With all 4 requirements met, you just visit (or use the "Find my iPhone" app on another iOS device) & login with your Apple ID & password to access Apple's "Find My iPhone" services. As part of the services, it'll show you the phone's current location. If the phone is off OR disconnected from internet services, it'll try to provide you the last known location within the last 24 hours. Please be aware that GPS / map data does have an error margin (which is the blue circle you'll see), so do take information with a grain of salt.

Please be aware that even if you can't locate the phone, you still have a few options…

* Ring -- Causes the phone to ring at MAX VOLUME (regardless of current volume settings, even if it's on silent mode) for 5 minutes OR until it's interrupted by somebody.

* Lock -- Engages lost mode on the phone & will remotely lock the phone (& even change the unlock PIN). You can also leave a personal message on the phone. This will also engage the activation lock, should the holder of the phone attempts to do a factory reset. This can be disengaged from the website OR by entering the new PIN.

* Wipe -- This goes one step further by locking down the phone (with the activation lock) AND automatically erases the contents of the phone.

I will note that if the phone is off (or battery is dead) or disconnected (like if Airplane Mode is engaged), the Lock & Wipe functions will trigger as soon as the phone gets connected online. Even if you can't locate the phone, you can still protect the contents on it (to some degree).

On a side note, the same features are available on Android devices (called "Find my Device", formerly called Android Device Manager). Such features have become a standardized (albeit underutilized) on all modern smartphones. This is something that I've mentioned to customers during my tenure as a customer service rep. With one of the major cellular carriers when the called to report their phone as lost (as a bit of a last-ditch effort to assist them before suspending their phone as lost, as originally requested).

LOOK for it.

Use Find My iPhone, assuming it was enabled.
