Mac book pro won't connect to my Wi-Fi

My mac book pro won't connect to the Internet for some reason? My iPhone 4 connects to the Wi-Fi easily but my MacBook can't find the network! I don't know why? Anyone have any solutions? I've tried restarting my computer and some other stuff people have said to do on the apple help page, however I don't have 'airport' on my network settings? Maybe because my MacBook is American? I'm not very good with my computer so I think I need an idiots walk through for it please?

If you are using a recent version of OS X Airport will be called Wi-Fi in the Network settings.

Have you turned the router off and on again to force fresh connections?

It is impossible to say why it is not working without some details. Has it connected to your network in the past but has now forgotten it?

Forget about "my MacBook Pro" and think about "my OS version."

To find what you have, click the Apple logo at the top menu bar, far left, and choose "About This Mac". WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING YOU SEE.

For OS 10.8.2…
-- Open System Preferences > Network.
-- Click "Locations:" and choose "Edit locations".
-- Click the + sign to make a new location.Name it "My Location" or whatever.
-- Select any other location, and click the - sign to remove it. (Remove All locations except your new one.)
-- Click "Apply".
-- Quit System Preferences.
-- Click the Wi-Fi icon in the top menu bar (looks like a quarter-circle), and choose "Turn Wi-Fi on".
-- Wait two seconds, and then click the same Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar, and choose your network name.

  • Will a dent in my mac book pro affect the hardware? The other day i droped my iphone on my mac, it hit to the right of the trackpad and left a small dent on the aluminum. Will this affect it in due time? Is there anything under that side that would have broke? It works fine right now.
  • Why does my mac book not connect to my VPN? I'm studying abroad in China and I have access to a VPN through my university in America. I'm able to connect to the VPN but it still will not let me get on Facebook, Google and other blocked sites in China. I use the same VPN for my iPhone and iPad and it works great. I have contacted my school but the IT guys were not too much help. Is there any setting on my Macbook that would be causing this? Any ideas?
