My Iphone 4 only connects to my home Wi-Fi router when i'm close to it. Why?

Iv had my Iphone 4 (NOT the s) now for around 12 months and as of recently, the internet started to play up on it. At first I couldn't connect to my home router (sky) so after having a play with the button on the router (switch it off then on, Reset etc) it still wouldn't find the router even when i'm in the same room.

Then I found that if i was within 1/2 metres of the router the iphone would pick it up, connect automatically (like it used to) and it would have full signal!

Does anyone know why this is or what's wrong and how to fix it?

It appears to be the phone at fault as my friend who lives with me has an Iphone 5 and his works fine all throughout the house.

Any help would be appreciated.

Added (1). Iv tried resetting the network config on my iPhone and re entering the router details. It finds it. But then I need to be close to it to pick it up.

Reset the Network Settings in you iPhone and crosscheck once gain

  • Whenever I double-tap on the home button on my iphone, it doesn't let me close apps? Usually you just double-tap the home button, the app windows come up, and you can swipe them up to close them, right? I'm not sure what happened but nothing happens when I do this now. Also I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but imessage is kind of screwed up too, because whenever I try to type something, the text box covers up the latest text. So if you know what's going on, please tell me what I need to do to fix this, Thanks!
