My iPhone 5 won't receive or send out messages?

I have an iPhone 5 I've had it for about a 1year and a half (just extra info if needed). Last night my friend was trying to send a normal message to me but I didn't get it at first I thought it was his phone but then I tried sending out messages to other people and they won't send I'm just getting the message failure sign but it is allowing iMessage and today I didn't have any 3G when I was off the wi-fi connection it just wasn't picking it up at all.
Does anyone know who to fix this?

Turn on Cellular Network/Connection

Or.

Hold down the home button and the power button at the same time for at least 10 seconds OR until an Apple logo appears.

  • Why does my iPhone 3gs lag to send and receive messages? I have an 8GB iPhone 3GS. It won't send messages. It can take from 3 minutes to 2 hours to send a message and same with receiving a message. I'm using iMessage. It is updated to the 6.0.1. I don't know how to fix this problem because it stops me from communicating with people.
