My lock button broke on my iPhone 4S, what do I do?
I called the apple store and my warranty for the phone was up, 88 days ago. I called Verizon thinking I had insurance on the phone and I don't, the phone is only a year and a couple months old. I can no longer lock my phone and if it dies of if I turn it off I will no longer be able to turn it back on. What can I do? It is a flaw on the phone so shouldn't they replace it?
There's an app in the app store don't worry. I don't know what it is called but I'm sure it's free.
Go to the settings, go to accessibility, and then look for assistive touch. Turn on assistive touch and then there should be a small square located somewhere near your screen (near the bottom corners). Press it and then you can turn off your phone by navigating to the device and press the lock screen button. Your phone should miraculously turn off from there. You can turn on your phone using the home button.
Can't help you with the possibility of your phone suddenly shutting off and then being unable to power it on though.
As for the issue of your power button breaking, no. If you didn't get the insurance plan (or any form of AppleCare), then you can't get your iPhone replaced after the one year warranty expired. Your power button breaking was inevitable since any button is bound to break after using it for a long while. Verizon and Apple are not obligated to replace and won't replace it. It's not a flaw. It's something called it was used too much to the point where the spring that allows your phone to operate finally gave out. Hope this helped.
It is not your fault that the phone broke, and it is un-fixable. I have heard of issues like this, and apple should fix it because it is faulty of the iDevice. I would suggest try your hardest not to let it die, and turn your brightness and stuff down to preserve battery. I would still check often to see if it begins to work.
A relative lately learned that the Energy / Lock button on top of his apple iphone was broken and would no more register a message when pressed in. Consequently, he was not able to lock his apple iphone or perhaps turn the energy off and on, so he earned a scheduled appointment having a Genius in an Apple Store, simply to find out that the alternative would go to $149. This could, possibly, not be the greatest investment, particularly given it's an apple iphone 4 and was due to have an upgrade in 2 several weeks, so he made the decision to carry off.
However, the Genius did give one potential fix for this problem, that was free and would tide him over for a few several weeks until purchasing a (rumored!) apple iphone 5. The fix really was easy and involved invoking a brand new 'Gesture' which designed a small virtual button show up on the apple iphone screen. To gain access to it, mind into Configurations > General > Ease of access > Assistive Touch and toggle it to 'On'. Hit Create New Gesture along with a small whitened button can look permanently in your screen, before you power it down obviously.
The button provides you with an online Home button, and when you choose Device, you'll be able to Lock the Screen, control volume, shake the unit, rotate the screen etc. You may also position it in a number of areas round the screen i.e. Move it for an innocuous location on screen. The issue is, in case your lock button is totally damaged then you definitely can't let your device to energy off. However, the virtual button allows securing that is virtually what you would like.
- Selling iPhone 4S lock button broke how much? I got a new phone and I wanted to sell my old one (iPhone 4S) I know I won't get much but apart from the lock button not working and some minor scratches it's alright how much do you think I can sell it for?
- My lock/power off button broke? I've had my iphone SE for 1 1/2 years and I've never smashed it, mistreated it or had any problems/symptoms leading up to the breaking of my lock button, any ideas why this happened and roughly how much it will cost to repair without apple insurance?
- My lock button on my iPhone broke? My lock button on my phone broke and I'm gunna get it fixed but i know there's a setting that can lock it wheere there's like a circle on your screen and you press it and go to devices and lock it or something. How do i turn that setting on?
- My iPhone 5 lock button broke, will the apple store exchange it? I got my iPhone 5 back in November, so I'm still under the 1 year warranty. If I went to the apple store to try to exchange it, would it be for free? Thank you very much! This is my first iPhone, so I'm not really sure how their warranty works haha. If you look at my phone, it has no damages (dents, bents, etc) and it has not been jail-broken!
