My message notifications won't work on my new iphone 5c?
I got my new iPhone 5c 2 days ago and so did my mom. When she gets a text, it shows up either on her lock screen, or on a banner at the top of whatever page she is on, and makes her text alert sound. Mine doesn't do that and makes no sound. I can only see when I have a text message by opening my messages app. I can't figure out the difference between our two iPhones.

Notifications are turned on in settings. I have an iPhone 5s. I have tried reinstalling the app, logging out, turning off my phone. Nothing's working!
- Why won't my 5c send a message as MMS when it's a long message to a non iPhone user? Whenever I type a LONG message to an SMS user (says Text Message in the messaging "box") my 5c won't convert to MMS and the recipient gets the message in dozens of out of order messages instead of the whole fluid message. I have MMS on in Settings. What can I do and why is it doing this?
