My new iPhone 5 home button inconsistent?

I've had my iPhone 5 for only about a month. The home button has been inconsistent since the day I got it. I have to press it numerous times before it actually does what it is supposed to. Of course whenever I try to show somebody it will work fine. Some days it's fine and others I have to press it up to 10 times to get a response. It is extremely frustrating and I was wondering if there's a way to fix it without it getting sent out to Apple and without harming my phone?

It sounds like you have a faulty home button the best way would be to go through apple directly since your phone is under the one year warranty and they can take care of it with no cost. If not you would have no other choice than to replace the button

You can try to recalibrate your home button but the same thing happened to my iPod 5 and I had to return it.

  • Why is Wi-Fi on the iPhone so inconsistent? Sometimes on YouTube my videos will load perfectly and any web browsing goes perfect. Other times nothing will load and the videos will stop loading at the same time in the time bar over and over again. Is this because my Internet sucks or because the of the hardware in my phone?   • My home button and lock button don't work on my iphone 4 Okay so about 2 weeks ago my lock button stopped working and I don't know why so I went to mts store and they said to go to the apple store and i haven't been able to go yet and then tonight I was on my phone then I went to eat dinner so i put it in my sweater pocket then after dinner i took my phone out and it wan't responding! I really only need the home function, but it would be really nice if it also had a screenshot function (because screenshots need the home + lock combo) Edit: If it makes any difference, my phone is an iPhone 3GS (old, lol) and has iOS 6.1.6.
