My teenager wants an iphone 4s. Why is it so special?

My 16 year old daughter has been begging me for an iphone for two years. She told me last night that she would save up the money to buy it herself, and that she would pay half of the monthly bill. What is so special about an iPhone 4s that makes her refuse to give up? What can it do that other phones can't?

I guarantee that she probably wants a better iPhone than that but understands, better iPhone more money. So, she's picking an older model. The 4s has siri. That's the only reason I think she wants it.

Iphones are just smart phones made by Apple, they are however the most common type of phones and most widely used. And no, there's nothing that they can do any better than an equivalent android phone. She is just obsessed with having what her peers have it sounds like.
If you're going to let her have a smartphone then you might as well just let her have what she thinks she wants. Surprisingly she doesn't want the 5S which is the current one…

Well there are a lot of reasons she probably wants an iPhone. I'm assuming she has what we call a "dumb phone" (instead of a smart phone). Now most kids have smart phones so it is considered the standard and people with older phones miss out and have brick phones. Also social media. All her friends probably have Facebook and Instagram and snapchat. They can talk in more ways than just typing and reading. Also if you want to take pictures it's good for that too, and you can share what's going on in your life. She wants to be "normal" and it is pretty important to us. Imagine when you were a kid if everyone else had something that they used every day. They all loved it, and you liked theirs, but you couldn't have one. You would KILL to get one.

HOWEVER I do think she should get something newer… IPhone 5 (or now the 5c) the iPhone 4s is becoming old and you should probably WAIT until the iPhone 6 comes out (in September) and then get the iPhone 5c (or even 5s) cheap(er)

Hmm well it's not her's mistake cuz I phone always was and will be attractive to every teenager… Actually there's nothing special except it's size and software… It's size is very handy, as compared to other smart phones, which makes it easier to text and you know teens love texting and I think you have the idea about I phone's software. I phone's software is very very attractive and I think you should be thankful to her cuz she is only begging for I phone 4s and not for Samsung galaxy s4 or I phone 5s because other new smartphones are very very expensive… I think you should secretly buy that phone and then you should give it to your daughter to make her surprised… She will be so happy

The iPhone 4s is a decent smartphone made by Apple, it can do most things that your basic everyday computer can do, sometimes even more. If you want to know why your daughter wants it so much I would hazard a guess that it is currently stylish to own one, Apple has an insanely good advertising campaign which targets young folks in particular. In a nutshell you can get a cheaper android phone which will have many of the same apps that the iPhone 4s will. However I can tell you that the iPhone is a better device altogether because of a few things. The Find My Phone feature on the iPhone makes the device hard to lose and harder for others to steal. Also Apple doesn't allow just anyone to make apps for their phones like Android does, which equals out into a much better app experience altogether and no spyware running in the background mining your personal information and slowing down phone performance which can happen quite frequently with the cheaper Android equivalent. The iPhone 4s is also a good choice for a youngster because it is cheaper than the newer iPhones now on the market, and it is also easier to fix if it gets broken. Lastly the iPhone works extremely well with other Apple Products that you may or may not have. I would say that if she is willing to buy it herself and pay half the monthly bill, why not? Nothing special, but an iPhone is a status symbol for modern teens, like many of the fashion fads of past generations. The 4S is old and slow but just having the Apple logo is enough to feel like they can be like the "cool" kids or the "in" crowd. Just like the Nike or air Jordon sneakers of not that many years ago.

Nothing that another couldn't minus one or two tweaks. Considering the price, it's not bad for an iPhone. Ease of use makes it not bad. I'm sure the teenage status symbol doesn't hurt. Also you can implement parental control settings just like I do with my two kids. You could do much worse. Best luck.
