Photographing ones own spouse, fustrating?

My wife and her sister always want to be photographed with bright lights behind them. I do not get it. Every picture taken with my iPhone looks like a typical "J J Abrams" shot (blinding lights washing out the image).

I took a class in photography 30 years ago in high school. So I'm capable of working around this, given the time and equipment, but she does not want me to.

I went out and spent big dollars on a professional camera, circular polarizing filters, and a lens shade to minimize the flare. Now she wants pictures with the sun almost behind her.

What frame does she like best? Of course, it is the beautiful photograph of the sun that her sister took. Oh honey is that dark spot you? It might be your sisters thumb, maybe a scarecrow, bigfoot, or a kid running between you and the camera. I'm not sure. Oh, maybe that is me, not you?

I took some shots of her on the beach. Of course the person in front of the camera is the boss, not the one looking in the viewfinder, right? I'm seeing spots, not her anyway, so someone needs to tell me when to press the button. I'm not sure if she is in the frame.

Well her favorite is what I call the "Beyonce shot". You know the tight skirt shot walking away from the camera into a blinding light. I think that is her. It is hard to make out the color of her skirt. It might be some other woman on the beach for all I know.

So what should I do?

Added (1). Her sister does the same thing. My brother-in-law hates taking photographs of his wife. It is as though she does not want to be in her own photograph.

I enhanced one of the "Beyonce" shots". I can now tell what color her skirt is. She set it as my wallpaper. My workmates are going to pick on me. Haha

The first answerer has a good point. Maybe in whatever country she comes from, the blinding light behind her is some kind of good omen. But you'll never know for sure unless you quietly ASK HER during a pillow talk session, when she is relaxed and cooing your name. No complaining, remember! This would be a special time…

Whoa there Ansel Adams, you took a photo class 30 years ago in high school and bought a professional camera. You are the expert here.

She likes what she likes. Lighten up. Take photos that you like for you and photos that she likes for her.

Use fill-in flash!

This is more of a "relationships" category question, not "photography".
No room for gossip here.

You appear to be asking if it's frustrating to photograph your own spouse in the wording of the pseudo question.

Why keep doing it?

Touch her in the frame and it will lighten but maybe not enough.

Yup fill in flash should do, however you'll need a powerful flash.

  • When best buy items are unavailable, do they get new ones? My mom was going to by me an iphone 4 from there before school starts which is august 27th. When i went on the website it said it was unavailable. Do they get new ones?
  • What is a good app for Instagram to make our pics look like tumblr ones? I have an Instagram account and I see all these pictures that have thick white boarders at the top and bottom. I was wondering what app you could download for an iPhone that did that so it looked like a tumblr picture.
  • Suspect spouse is using a Texting app to cheat I pay the bills and lately I've noticed that he has some incoming and outgoing texts with his own phone number. Why would he text himself, so I suspect he has some texting app. Wondering if anyone out there has an iphone with At&T, uses KIK, Whatsapp or any other kind of texting app, and if your online bill shows your own number as an incoming text.
  • How to monitor what apps your spouse downloades on an iPhone? I suspect foul play. AGAIN! I think my boyfriend is using the same app he was using when he cheated on me a year ago. Is there a way I can confirm if this app is being downloaded and deleted? We live together. I think he uses it to meet people and then deletes it. How can I find out what apps he downloads or deletes?
