Procedure to PROPERLY backup iPhone on iTunes on PC?

Hi, I just had a Hard Drive tank on my PC -now up& running again, but lost my data on the original drive I have briefly looked at the procedure online on how to re-install iTunes on the PC and then basically back-sync the contents back onto my PC.
I was wondering if anyone that was real sync-savvy would just explain to me the direction that I should have in the iTunes settings before I connect the phone back onto the PC, with safeguard in mind so I don't screw up. I have had some friends lose everything when they synced their phone to a fresh install of iTunes.
It would appear that I do have my iCloud settings properly in place as an alternative, but I feel better if I also have a local copy of my phone as well.

Also, as I dare to ask… Is there any feasible way as of yet to say, if a friend emails me a mp3 song, etc. To my phone, that I can just add it to the phone without docking to the PC/iTunes method? I know, probably a cardinal sin to even ask, haha.

Just connect your phone and click backup. I'm not sure how it could get any simpler.

  • WHATSAPP BACKUP! Why can't i find the backup conversation button in chat settings? I need to backup my whatsapp convo to iCloud from my iPhone 4s, because i wanna transfer the chat history to my iPhone 5s… But somehow i can't find the "backup conversation" button in chat settings. I have alrdy downloaded the latest version of whatsapp… WHAT IS GOING WRONG?
  • New iTunes 11 won't sync iPhone and iPad properly? Ever since I updated to the new iTunes 11 a couple days ago. The apps don't sync properly within the two devices. It used to be that whenever I deleted an app from itunes it would automatically erase it from both of my devices. Now even if I delete a few apps they will still be on them and I have to go in them and manually delete them, its not that big of a deal but its a huge pet peeve.
  • Jailbreaking procedure for iPhone 4S? I wanna know how to jailbreak my iPhone 4S, then I wondered if it was even possible given that 4S isn't that old. Can I still do it?
  • Is there, like an official procedure for exchanging iPhone with a new iPhone? I have a 16gb iPhone 6(near mint condition). I'm not too happy with 16 gb. I'm however, very excited for the iPhone se version that is coming out. Is there some kind of procedure where I can exchange my 6 for a se version?
