Receive texts on suspended cell service?

I suspended my Verizon mobile contract last month due to a move to another country, and it is still in effect. However, I received a text message from an American number and I have no idea how it happened. My iPhone has no service, it even says it at the top right corner. Any ideas?

Even if you suspend your contract, your phone will still receive a cellular signal from Verizon… As to your text, I don't know how that would have happened. Maybe try asking a friend to text your number to see if it still goes through, but as long as you're not getting a bill I wouldn't worry about it.
