How to get rid of over 7 GB of Other data on my iPhone 4S? - 1
I got my iPhone 4S 16GB almost 5 months ago. I have 700 songs (3 GB) and 9 apps (2.5 GB) on it. But I have 0.81 GB of free space, because under "Other" on iTunes it says I have 7.4 GB worth of data and it goes up and down drastically when I sync my phone after only a little bit. It was actually just 6.9 GB and then I deleted 2 apps, synced it a few minutes later, and then it went up to 7.4 GB.
I keep having to delete all my pictures and videos, because "Other" takes up all my available space. I've looked it up but I haven't gotten a clear answer on what "Other" even really is. I understand it's from the e-mails and texts and Facebook and Twitter and Instagram information. But I don't even have the Facebook app, this problem was way before I downloaded Twitter, etc. Should I stop using my e-mail account on my phone, delete all my texts and notes, etc? I've heard that that's usually the solution if you just simply have too much data, but I read that if you have over 5 GB of "Other" that it could be data corruption which a restore of your phone would fix. I have over 7 GB of "Other" so, do I have to restore my phone data even though I've had it for 5 months? How would I do that and what will that get rid of?
Also, my software is completely up to date with iOS 6.1.3.

[A.] I would first try to solve your problem by deleting unwanted Apps.
General Tips:
- Movies, music videos, TV shows, and other images take up proportionally more data than songs and most Apps.
- Games that have 3D environments (like Infinity Blade) take up more data than 2D Apps.
- The Safari App holds a minimal amount of data that allows it to remember open pages. If you delete that data, those pages will be closed. I recommend leaving this data since it is minimal.
1. Press the Settings icon >
2. Press "General" >
3. Press "Usage" >
4. Wait for "Storage" list to load >
5. Scroll down and click "Show all Apps"
6. See which apps are taking the most data >
7. Choose and press an App that you don't want >
8. Press "Delete App" >
9. Repeat Steps 7. And 8. Until you are happy with how much data is available.
[B.] If that does not work, I would restore the iPhone. This will delete the data and settings for many Apps but you will be able to get all the Apps back as well as the data and settings for certain ones (such as those synced with Gamecenter).
1. Hook iPhone up to computer and open iTunes.
2. Allow iPhone to completely sync. This could take several minutes.
3. Under your device menu, open the "Summary" tab.
4. Under "Backups" find "Manually Back Up and Restore" and click "Back Up Now."
5. Allow iPhone to completely back up. This could take several minutes.
6. Once the back up is complete, click "Restore iPhone…"
7. When the pop-up appears, click "Restore." This could take several minutes.
8. When the iPhone is reset, follow the directions given on the iPhone.
- My iPhone 4S keeps turning off over and over and over again? I was on my phone just listening to OM&M on pandora and going on twitter when all of a sudden it shut off and now it's stuck on the turning off screen for like an hour or two. What do i do I'm FREAKING OUT.
- I'm trying to get rid of Other on iPhone 5? I know this is a tired question because no one can figure out how to truly remove the (5GB in my case) excess of "other" on the iPhone because it apparently might be due to corrupted files. I've tried everything I can find online to no avail. I really don't want to resolve to starting a new phone because I need my current photos, contacts and messages. Any suggestions?
- How to get rid red dot over iPhone's phone icon? So I have this red dot like over my phone icon and it's Really annoying! I know a lotta people have the same question on a bunch of others websites on google, but I've read a lot of them and was not able to find the answer. So again the question, how to get rid of the red dot? Please someone who have had this problem and actually got rid of it.
- How to get rid of the other category in my iPhone's usage The "other" section is currently taking up 7.5GB of my iPhone's capacity (so ridiculous)! I've tried everything: deleting contacts, deleting conversations, deleting apps, and even RESTORING MY IPHONE. But it still is taking up basically half of my usage! Please someone tell me how I can get rid of, or at least drastically reduce, the "other" section.
