Safe to cut iPhone 3GS sim card withi Phone 4?

I have an AT&T sim card for the iphone 3gs, but i bought the 4 from a friend who also had at&t… If i cut the sim card will it work for the 4? And is it safe?

I recently had to cut my sony xperia mini pro SIM card (at&t) so that it can fit into my HTC phone micro-sim card and It was a success.

The mos timportant part of the sim card are the 3 lines that the teeths touch against the sim card. I'm not talking about the black lines… These 3 lines are visible if you hold it against the light. It you happen to cut a little off the top and bottom edge of the gold plate sim card, it shouldn't cause any problem. Just be careful and remember the 3 lines where the teeth touch the sim card are the most important.

Hope that helps

P.S. Make sure the sim card is not deactivated. If it is then you won't get any signal or "bars". You will have to get a new sim from at&t and it shouldn't cost you to get a new one. If you do fail to cut the sim card, then just go to your local at&t and ask them for a new sim card and let them know which size sim you are looking for. You don't have to activate it at the store, you can't ell them you will activate it over the phone

I had an iphone 3gs and upgraded to the 4 and i was told i had to buy a whole new sim card since they were different sizes. I asked if i could cut the sim card to fit the 4 and they told me no that it would interfere with the phone? I would say try it if you think it might work for you or just call an order a new one for the 4. When i ordered my new sim card it was free.

  • Will an iphone 3gs sim card work for an iphone 4 if i cut it? My dad has an an unlocked iPhone 3GS and has no data plan, just texting and calling. I want to give him my 4, which is not yet unlocked. Can he use it if he cuts his sim card to fit into an iPhone 4? And will they charge him if he uses the internet?
  • Will a blackberry sim card work in an iPhone 4 if we cut the sim? My friend has a blackberry and wants to buy an iPhone 4 off someone he knows. I have a micro sim cutter that I used when I went from iPhone 3G to iPhone 4. If we cut down his sim it will fit in the iPhone, but will he still be able to use Internet and call people? Also, would his network provider be able to send him a new iPhone sim but with the same tariff? Cheers
  • Reuse T-Mobile cut-to-use-for iPhone SIM card back to regular T-Mobile phone? Is that possible? My SIM card has been cut to fit on iPhone but I'm going to sell it next month to go back to regular T-Mobile phone. I still have the cutout piece from original T-Mobile SIM Card. Can I re-attach micro SIM to original T-Mobile card and use it on new T-Mobile phone, or would I have to buy the new SIM card and activate it again on pay-as-go-plan?
