Selling a iphone got a check in the mail?

So I put an ad on craighlist for an iPhone 4s and somebody
Sent me a check for 1, 950 $ for it now the check looks real but that much for an iphone are you serious now does anybody know how can I find out if it's really or not and if I cash it can I get in trouble

This is the way the scam works. Normally It takes two weeks for your bank to get the money from the bank the check is drawn on. They send you a worthless check for more than an item cost. Then they ask for the extra money to be returned to them. You deposit the check and get the money, then return the extra money to them.
Two weeks later the bank returns the check because it was a bad check and did not clear. They also make you pay the bank back for All of the money the bank gave you for the check.

You loose the phone and the money you sent them

The check is a fake, fake, fake. If you cash it, it will bounce sooner or later and at the least, you'll be out the phone.

Where you told to wire a balance of money back to someone? This is a classic scam.

I posted a couch for sale on Craig's list, got an offer for a ridiculous amount of money, got the check and I was supposed to wire 2/3s of it to another person, I told them to get lost, last I heard from them. Do you think someone that sent you a legitimate check would just walk away?

I received a check in the mail that seemed real and i took it to my bank to have it checked out, FAKE. My brother received one too and cashed it and is now paying it back out of his paycheck like clockwork and child support.

Make a copy of that check back and front for yourself and then take it to your bank and talk with the manager and tell them what's going on. Did you sent the phone yet? Don't send it. Don't ever deal with craigslist again since they have a LOT of bad stuff going on there, a lot of fraud, a lot of holdups and even sometimes loss of life. Anyway provide to the bank all the details, copy of the ad, the check, address and phone and email or anything else you have. Above all do NOT attempt to cash it. Put the check in a plastic bag (for fingerprints). Then call the police (non-emergency line) and tell them how you took care of this matter. You will be recorded.
