No. You should get a teen boy a phone that retails of under $300 but if you do get him an iphone buying insurance or apple care would be a good idea. It might be better to spend the extra $100 on more memory version of the 6 unless he reads ebooks on his phone that is the only reason I can think of to get the 6 plus
