You should buy a proper phone like a SAMSUNG. Best camera, processor, graphics, RAM, ROM etc. Of ALL phones. For under a grand.

If you want a phone which is strong and hard to break or get damaged, go for iPhone 8. But if you want the latest technologies like Face ID, Animoji, beautiful screen and aspect ratio, then go for iPhone X. I'm not personally buying any of them due to the fact that the iPhone X is new and all the technologies integrated in it are not well established. I might also not get used to the gestures Apple implemented after removing the home button and I'm also not secured about exposing my face for this new biometric system. It's my opinion though, the decision is yours.
Get a 7 now. The 8 is good but there's not a big market for wireless right now. I predict in 2019 to 2020 there will be. I predicted the iPhone wouldn't have a headphone jack in 2017 back in 2014 as to get thinner the device would need to get rid of it.
