Can't really answer that until that other iPhone is confirmed & detailed so that it can then be compared, reviewed & then a proper recommendation could be made.
You're asking… Should I buy the iPhone 8 plus now or wait for the 6.1 with the TFT screen that comes out this fall… Right?
If you can get by with the phone you currently have then by all means wait.
If you wait to pick, the iPhone X with the 6.1" screen will likely have a better CPU and a GPU. If rumors are true about the 6.1 being $600-700 then I see no reason to buy the iPhone 8, TBH. Also the prices of the current iPhone 8 plus should get a price drop when the next generation phones comes out.
I was using a Galaxy s6 which was reliable for the most part except for the battery life which was never good to begin with. I don't download anything, no apps, keep the Wi-Fi and BT off but the battery life was still poor. When the battery got to the point that is would rapidly discharge then I stepped up to the iPhone. I got the iPhone X at first and I was Blown Away by how well it works. I hadn't been that impressed since I crossed over from Motorola Droid phones to the Galaxy s3. In fact I was more impressed by the iPhone X than I was the S3.
After a few weeks the OLED screen started hurting my eyes so I got the iPhone 8 plus instead. The 8 plus feels a lot lighter and it seems thinner than the X and it serves me well… Better than any Galaxy phone ever did. I expect the 6.1 to be every bit as good as both the X and 8plus and it should roll right over any Galaxy phone.
The lesson I learned from my s6 was to not replace the phone if it's functioning well. I had the Note 3 before that and I regret getting rid of it. If your current phone just isn't hacking it or it's malfunctioning then by all means get rid of it.
