The current model is deeply flawed due to really clunky facial recognition.
So if you need to buy now, get the 8 as it's basically the same phone but without the OLED screen and no facial recognition.
Otherwise wait to see what progress Apple have made over the X. The biggest improvement they could make would be to add the Home button back to it with fingerprint sensing, even if it was out of sight on the rear of the phone. Failing that, they need to massively imprive the speed and accuracy of the facial recognition, and I don't see that happening until maybe the third generation of the X.
Save your money and buy a Samsung phone. Apart from the fact that it has been proven that they are way better, it is also good for the wallet.
Comes down to patience.
