Should I update my iPhone software?

I have an iPhone 5 and the iOS 9 came out recently but I don't know if I should update it… It seems very tempting like the battery life but is there any "bugs"

Not really the new update came out ios 9.1, so if there so any bugs its probably gone now. You could update no problem

On iTunes when I hit check for updates this message. "iTunes could not check for an update to carrier settings for your iPhone. An unknown error occurred (1631) ". What did I need to do to update my software?
  • Trying to update iPhone software, to 5.1.1? I have the latest iTunes, and when I plug in my iPhone, and choose "check for updates" it comes up with a window for me to choose a file. Saying it has to be a.ipsw file. I have windows xp and hve an have iPhone software 4.3.

The pics/vids are stored on my laptop. But still, I'd like to have it on my phone. If I choose to update, it's going to be iOS 7.1.2. Should I? Will it delete or mute videos and pictures?
