Should I use my credit card to buy the iPhone X?

I'm young and new to credit cards I would like to start building up my credit and I would also like to purchase a new phone since mine is all messed up. I'm wondering if I should pay for the iPhone on full with the credit card and pay the card off. Or pay the monthly payments for about 2 with my credit card and pay it off as I go. Please don't judge me as I'm new to the credit world & thanks in advance for everyone's input.

Not if you can't pay for it

Take your credit card limit and subtract 20%. That is how much of that credit card you should ACTUALLY use before it stalls your climbing credit score. Using too much of your available credit is seen as bad because having that credit available to use (and using it regularly) is actually what builds credit.

So, if your phone is 20% or less of your credit card limit then go ahead and charge it. Otherwise, pay the phone company every month using the card and then pay the card off each month. Pay the bill before you get charged interest on your cards. If you are using more than 20% of the card limit, are starting to purchase additional things without paying previous purchases off completely, or if you have balances left over from previous months at the start of new months, that is how you get into credit trouble.

Modern necessities like cell phones are excellent long-term items to pay off in order to build credit and get used to how credit itself works. Best of luck.

No way.
Use your card only to spread payment over 2 or 3 months at most, and even then only for emergencies like getting your transport back on the road.
There are plenty of very decent handsets which cost a tenth of the iphone.

I have been working in the bank card industry for 21 years. I work for one of the biggest banks in the world. I'm qualified to give advise on matters of bank cards.

I live debt free, and have an 800 credit rating.

Do not waste money on an iPhone X. That is a horrible investment.

The actual item you buy makes no difference to the credit reporting agency. It makes no difference if you buy an airline ticket, or a pair of shoes. How about your school books?

Buy something you actually need and pay it off over a few months.

Get a petrol card form Shell, Mobil, Texaco, etc. Pay it every month. Keep the balance zero or low.

Get a Khois' card, and never carry a balance.

Odds are that you are paying 21% on your bank cards. I pay about 9-12%.

Never use a debit card. Only use a credit card, and pay the balance. Debit cards do not offer customer protection like a credit card.

Never spend a bunch of money to "build credit".

Only use a credit card for convenience and only if you can pay in full when the bill comes.

You will build credit just fine without paying a dime in finance charges & interest. When the bill comes, pay it in full before the due date. Don't buy anything you can't pay for.

Cards are good to carry because if you were going to spend $500 or whatever and you got robbed on the way, the $500 is gone forever. If you get robbed of the credit card, you won't owe for the charges.

Also, many cards have cash back. Discover pays 5% of all purchases in certain categories which change every 3 months and 1% on everything else
I have another card that pays a flat 2% on everything. Doesn't sound like much but it adds up over time.

  • Use moms credit card for broken iPhone screen? I cracked my phone screen and my mom only knows of a small crack I had a while ago though it got much larger. Should I order an I cracked Diy screen repair kit online with her card and try to fix it myself or should I tell her and get in a Ton of trouble and ask to buy it?
  • Late fee for Best Buy credit card? I bought an iPhone 7plus recently. I knew today was my due date & it says it won't charge a late fee unless you pay after 5pm. I forgot my card at home, I'm at work right now. How much is the late fee?
  • ITunes Gift card instead of Credit Card? I found some things that i have been wanting on the iTunes store but i do not have a credit card registered with my account. If i were to buy an iTunes gift card, would that work in lieu of the credit card requirement? Also, the apps that i want to get are for the iPhone. Would buying an app with the gift card affect the plan with the phone in any way?
