Someone broke into my house?

They took my iPad, phone, brand new laptop BAG, and external HD.

I know all the specs of the EHD and iPad (Find my iPhone wasn't on), but I don't think that will help.
I don't have a back-up because THAT was the back-up. Thank God my laptop was with me. But I still feel really, really bad that I can't even concentrate on the stuff I'm supposed to be doing. This only happened yesterday. That exeternal HD had EVERYTHING in it. Some I still have with me, but some of the stuff in it I have never uploaded anywhere. That's 4 years of lecture, and photos, and movies, and songs, and videos etc. Special occasions.

I know I need a back-up for my back-up for my back-up.

I know I have little to no chance to get them back but how do I get over this?
I'm just so upset. I feel so bad.

Added (1). Parbat: We've done that. We can't trust them though. They usually just sit around and do nothing.

Maybe you can go to an apple store and ask them if they can find your iphone through gps. Also keep a close eye on your neighbors. The fact that nobody saw or said anything means that they knew what time you wouldn't be home. Either that or your house just looks abandoned. Leave your valuables in a bookbag at your best friend or family members house. If you haven't start saving everything on a flash drive- photos, music, lectures etc. Hope you get your stuff back. But if not you just gotta let it go.

If you know all your apple info I believe it is trackable, if you have home insurance it could cover your loss as long as you made a police report… We got our place broken in to this last Christmas, came home Xmas morning to a empty house and they tried to burn the house by leaving the burners on the stove on, I lost about $6,000 worth of stuff and my insurance sent me a check to buy my stuff back, it took about a month so it was a long wait, I bought a camera system you should do that as well,
I have a bigger tv now too. I guess those fools that took my stuff did me a favor, they upgraded me
