Syncing Documents from one computer to another?

So I have a MacBook Pro + retina which I take everywhere, and then I have my Mac at work that I'll save documents to.

I wanted to ask what the best way to automatically have it so that whenever I add/save a new document from my (work) Mac in the /Documents folder, it can automatically sync them over to my MBPr whenever it is connected to the internet… Kind of like how Evernote does it.

- Evernote once it connects to the internet it will connect to the server and check to see if there are any new files/notes (in technical terms, rsync) to all the other devices that are connected to the server.
- Example, I write a not on my iPad mini + retina (that isn't connected to the internet) then when I get home and it connects, it will sync it and I can view those notes on my iPhone 5s and Mac now.

Any good way to do this for my two Macs (not through dropbox, please)?

You could set up your own personal cloud using Transporter. That looks to like a good solution. I assume that you are concerned with dropbox due to security concerns?

  • How to transfer photos from one computer to another? I lived in Germany for two months this summer and used my German friend's iPhone to take photos, because I dropped my own phone in a toilet. I've come back to the US, with no photos. My friend in Germany has downloaded all several hundred of them to his computer… Now we're kind lost on how to get them to me. Any ideas? I've thought about using a flash drive, but I'd really rather not. I've had problems with mailing things to him in the past
