Tap To Download IMessage problems?

I have a iphone 5 16gb and my software is 7.0.3 i tried sending a picture to someone on imessage and in the message box where you write messages it came up with a clear box saying "tap to download" i tapped it and nothing happened. I then sent it as it was only a pictureless box and it didn't send.

Turn iMessage off and then on again. Sometimes this will just reset everything back to normal and iMessage will work fine:

Open Settings
Tap on Messages and then tap on iMessage to turn it off
Wait a few seconds and then tap to turn it back on
Check that your chosen network is active and then try to send a message to an iMessage user
If this doesn't work, try signing out of your Apple ID and then signing back in again - you can do this through the Send and Receive menu
If you have to do this repeat the first few steps above for switching iMessage off and on again.

In the event that this doesn't work:

Check your Send and Receive settings
Open Settings
Tap on Messages
Tap on Send and Receive
Tap on Send and Receive
imessage (1)
You will see your phone number, email address and Apple ID in here, make sure everything is as it should be. There are several things you will need to try in here:

Delete you email and just use your phone number
Use one or the other to see if iMessage is working
Choose both - you will then be taken to a new screen that says "start new conversations from" - you should choose your phone number

Some people have found that removing older text messages, especially long ones, kick started iMessage into starting again. Some others have found that restoring and setting up as a new phone worked as well.

One user has noticed that the date on your iPhone must be set to auto update - this has been shown to fix the issue as well:

Go to Settings
Tap on General
Tap Date and Time
Tap to set Automatically On

I had this problem and fixed it by deleting other photos in the same thread. It seems that there may be a maximum amount of data allowed in long threads and if you are using too much data with the thread (through picture sending), then the next picture sent appears as a "Tap to Download" file.

  • Why won't my tap to tweet work on the new IOS 6? I updated my iPhone and it worked just fine but I don't see the tap to tweet in the notification center, please help!
  • Why is it that every time i lightly tap my iPhones power button it makes a rattle noise? I have an iPhone 5s and i don't know why its making a noise when i gently tap the power button. (Tapping it not pressing it) I've had the screen replaced twice and Maybe that's why? But i also had a very tight case on it maybe making it loose. But i was wondering if i should take it to the carrier store and get it fixed or get a new phone (i have insurance on it). Is it normal for it to be loose?
  • Tap to Unlock without Jailbreak? I just got a new iphone 4s. I previously had my 3gs jailbroken and had the 'tap to unlock" feature. I prefer that over slide to unlock because I'm left handed and it's annoying to have to slide the opposite direction. However my 3gs had some minor glitches and bugs due to the jailbreak so I'd prefer not to jailbreak my 4s, but is there a way to get tap to unlock without jailbreaking the phone? Or even reverse the slide or something? Any help would be appreciated.
  • Tap to Tweet issue on iPhone 4S? I have a Sprint iPhone 4S which isn't even a year old. It's running the latest version of iOS 6 (iOS 6.0.3) and I have issues with tap to tweet! Sometimes it works but 60% of the time it says "Can't connect to twitter… Tweet failed." Why does it say this and how can I fix it?
