Too much water damage iPhone 4S?

Ok, so I'm getting bored from using this stupid slow iPhone 3G and I was wondering if I still can use the rice trick for my water damaged phone, my parents don't have much money for a new phone so I can't have a new phone.

I had a 4, and I accidentally spilled water on it while doing the dishes. The rice trick worked pretty well for me, but we had to replace the phone eventually anyway because it was old. It should probably work so long as the phone isn't too damaged in general.
