TV screen size based on height and width measurements?
I'm getting my girlfriend a new tv for Christmas but obviously l don't want her to know so I had to measure her current tv but not with a tape measure lol. I used my iPhone 3GS as a tool lol. The screen is roughly 14 inches up and 24 inches across. So (roughly) what is the screen size? 22inch etc
Added (1). Clearly you haven't ready the description to this question. I'm asking for the tv size based on current measurements of the height and width.
Get a tape measure or measuring device. You go from one corner at the bottom to the opposite corner at the top. So you should be able to work it out from that.
I have a spread sheet that calculates sizes.
24 inch across corresponds to a diagonal size of about 27.5 inches and a height of about 12 inches. Your 14 inch number is not correct. (or the 24 is not)
14 inch height corresponds to a little less than 29 inch diagonal and 25 inch width.
Average of the two is about 28 inch
But perhaps this is not a modern 16:9 screen (widescreen) as all TVs made in the last 10 years or so, but an older 4:3 proportioned screen. Although the numbers don't track that either.

It's a 28". You can check using the right angled triangle calculator at http://www.cleavebooks.co.uk/scol/calrtri.htm. I double checked using my widescreen telly which is 18"x32" which is a 37" screen.
A TV screen is the diagonal measurement. So use the Pythagoras theorem as you have 2 sides of a right angled triangle.
