Two noises from the TV scare my dog.why?

My dog (small breed) gets extremely scared from two noises from TV. The sound of a doorbell and the sound of an iphone alert. I mean, he literally shakes, uncontrollably, tucks his tail, etc… He usually runs off the bed, out the doggy door & into his dog house! For example, I was watching Golden Girls & the doorbell rang (on the show). He instantly got up and started to run off the bed. I stopped him and held him in my arms… He was shaking terribly! He eventually snuck out of my arms and burried himself under my pillow… But I don't understand why those two noises strike such fear in him & what can I do to help him when he does that?

Your dog is probably more scared of your doorbell at your house, and when he hears it on tv he can't tell the difference between your bell and the tv bell. He's probably really scared of people and he associates the door bell with people coming over. As far as the phone a lot of dogs are scared of the vibration, try turning the vibration off. If its already off, it could be the high pitch noise that the phone makes which is hurting his ears, try turning it down. Sometimes there's nothing you can do to help your dog get over that. The best thing to do is slowly expose him to those things, hold and pet him telling him its okay and that he's a good boy, hopefully with enough time he'll get use to those sounds.

My dog reacts to iPhome noises the same way. She shakes uncontrollably and wants to hide. My previous phone alerts never made her do this, but many seemed nearly identical.

  • Why isn't my dog clicker working on my iphone? I recently downloaded a dog clicker app but it didn't work, then i downloaded a second one and it STILL didn't work. I'm just wondering if I'm not doing something that is really simple or if the sound doesn't work. The two apps that i downloaded are called iClicker free and clicker lite And Kallie i don't need to know that you don't know this answer. Why would you waste your time if you didn't know.
  • Why does my PC make clicking/popping noises? It's not the speakers themselves, as it happens with headphones too. It seems like when the PC is heavily taxed, any audio playback will sometimes contain sporadic pop noises. It happens from a midi playback program, from iTunes, from Youtube videos - anything. I definitely notice an increase while I'm recording something. What can I do?
  • Why does my iPhone not make any noises? My iPhone does not play sounds through the speaker when I get the call. I also can't hear people when speaking to them in a call and it does not play music through the headset. How can I fix this?
