Under 18, Canadian Citizen, Want To Work In The USA?

I was born in Canada, and moved to the US 2 years ago. I'm 15, and I don't mind waiting until I'm 16 to get a job. I moved because my dad got a job at a super big computer company and is an IT here in the states. I recently broke my laptop screen and my iPhone got water damage, and I don't want to drain my dads wallet since he already works hard to provide me with all these things that I broke to begin with. I don't have a social security number, but I do have a Canadian TIN number. I've thankfully been gifted with being tech savvy and know quite a bit about apple products. I wanted to work as a genius bar specialist but I'm willing to work anywhere. Can I do so without being an American Citizen?

You're a dependent of an employment visa holder & strictly prohibited from working under your visa. Furthermore, state child labor laws require persons under 18 to obtain work permits for minors. ONLY US citizens & legal permanent residents can get them since there are no visas allowing children to work.

Don't try to get around this or your whole family loses their visas & has to return to Canada immediately. And visa fraud is a violation which gets you permanently barred from US. If you're concerned about money, the last thing your family needs is for your father to lose his job!

You're probably a dependent of your father's H1B visa and unable to work in the US. This is a common predicament that often leaves even highly educated spouses without the means to work. Your father surely knew this when he accepted a job in a foreign country so likely he won't mind floating you the money to fix your electronics. Holding a Canadian TIN number is pointless in the US. I have one myself and it's only useful when working either in Canada or for Canadian companies in the US (which I can do as I'm a US citizen, but you can't do).

It sounds like you have a TD visa. You can't work in the US. Period.
