Updating my iPhone 4 to IOS 5.1.1

Okay so i wanna update my iPhone 4 (not 4s) and I'm updating it to IOS 5.1.1 but all my friends who updated say that it restarted or deleted all apps n deleted all or some photos doe sit always do that? I don't mind as much my apps but i want to keep all my photos?

The iOS 5.1.1 update will not wipe out your data while updating. But whenever you update your iPhone you should have it backed up to your Mac/PC and/or iCloud in case something goes wrong. Your friends may have lost data because they updated from a computer other than the one their iPhone originally synced with (you can only sync with one computer at a time). If you are already running iOS 5.0-5.1 and have a Wi-fi connection the easiest update method would be to do it from the Settings app.

  • Will updating my iPhone to iOS 6 unban me? My Instagram account was disabled for whatever stupid reason, but if I were to update my iPhone 4S to the new iOS 6 beta, would I be able to use Instagram again? I've made a new account, and it says my account has been disabled. It banned my phone via the UDID. Instagram works on my ancient iPod Touch though.
  • Will updating my iPhone apps affect my phone speed as how updating the Operating System (OS) will? Currently I'm using the iPhone 5s on iOS 8.3 I know if I were to update my phone to the latest OS I may notice some slowdown on my phone's performance, since it may not have the "muscle" to handle certain functions. Many apps now are optimised for iOS 9 and/or the 6th generation phones. Will my 5s' speed performance slow down if I update my apps? Will the app's performance slow down?
  • Will updating Iphone 3GS to ioS 6.0 ruin screw up my jailbreak? I don't know how to ask this… Sorry if my wording makes no sense. I have an Iphone 3GS, and I want to update it iOs 6.0, but won't that take the jailbreak or whatever off? And I will have to jailbreak it again?
  • Will updating from ios 6.0.1 to ios 6.1.2 remove everything? I know that if you 'Majorly' update your iPhone it will erase everything from your iPhone like updating ios 4 to ios 6, but what if you are just updating your iPhone from ios 6.0.1 to ios 6.1.2 on the same version, is there any difference or it will also remove everything?
