Virgin Mobile iPhone 4S vs HTC Evo V 4G?

I'm long out due to upgrade my rumor 2 I've been using without any problems the last few years. I normally don't use phones much as I can get pretty much everything I need done and communicate on my laptop or tablet so I really have no reason to leave Virgin Mobile and at this point they have great phones and data for the price to stay in competition. But I would like a 3G/4G productivity powerhouse for when I'm not around Wi-Fi. I'd love to have the iPhone 4S and if it was cheaper I'd buy it. But $650 is a but much, considering I can get the Evo V for $230 (which I have in hand and could get right now instead of waiting another month or two until I can get another $400+ saved up.) I love the idea of 4G on the Evo but will I even have it available where I live? I live about 50 miles south of Pittsburgh PA. Virgin mobile's website says my area has excellent 3G and calling (I rarely go out of signal) but it doesn't have any 4G around me at all, but then I kept going and no where on the map had 4G coverage, that can't be right. I know Sprint has 4G coverage, so do any of you know if there's 4G coverage available around the Pittsburgh area that I can use instead of being limited to just 3G. When it comes to tablets I love android over apple but phone wise I know apple is reliable and over 4 years of my iPod touch it is still in excellent shape and the few software problems are easily fixed by iTunes restores/backups. My other question is if I wait a bit longer will the iPhone 5 come out for Virgin, since Sprint already has it (I've already decided I'm not interested in the iPhone 5.) If they are going to get it will the 4S still be sold and if so will it have a price drop around the $400 or less range? Either phone will be great but if I can get the 4S cheaper I'd prefer to get it over the Evo V because I'm more familiar with iOS and won't really get to know much about android until I get an android tablet so I want a phone that I can dive right into and get all my needs done quickly and easily. I'd really appreciate any help but please try and answer all my questions and don't give me that fanboy garbage for either phone because the questions I asked are what will make me decide on which one I will get. Thanks.

Added (1). Blake: thanks for that answer, I was hoping to hear something like that. I'd much rather just spend $200, still get a great phone, and not have to spend any more money and then be able to buy something else I need. I was reading reviews on amazon and many people were saying they were having trouble with texting and the phone was of poor build quality (of course amazon always has reviews like that even on great products, esp laptops because I bought one that is perfect yet had terrible reviews usually because people are technologically challenged and get upset when they can't figure something out.) But I know form experience that Apple products rarely have problems and have great build quality, but the price is still too much. A lot will come down to whether or not I can pick up 4G where I live on the Evo V.

Dude don't jump on the iPhone bandwagon, In all honesty the HTC Evo v 4g is better than the iPhone 4s. I mean its got a dual core 1.2 ghz processor! Basically the iPhone is overrated and I don't think anyone should buy it. Get the HTC.
