Vodafone Simcard, I recently got a new IPhone XR and my brother got me a simcard from Vodafone, I put it into my phone but won't work?

Added (1). (i had no space in the inital queston) No matter what I do, it says no service and I do not have a number apparently. I sent messages to vodafones systems to give me a number and they all fail. I sent my sister a message and it came through as my gmail. I do not know what to do and it is very frustrating as I have just changed to Vodafone

Could be that your phone is locked to a particular network that isn't Vodafone

Is your iPhone XR tied to a particular network? New iPhone models often seem to be tied to one particular network in each territory. They put software in the phone so that no other SIM card will work, only the one issued by that (usually expensive) network. The alternative is to get the software in the phone changed so it will accept other network's SIM cards (making the phone so -called 'SIM Free'), but it may invalidate the warranty on the phone.

Even if a phone is available 'SIM Free', some network operators sell versions of the phone, maybe for a cheaper price, that have had their software changed so they will only work on their own network.

Your phone is locked to a network. Where did you buy it from?
You need to find out what the network is. A vodaphone sim won't work in other networks such as orange, EE and so on.

Is the XR unlocked or locked to Vodafone? Doesn't sound like it was locked to Vodafone so it wouldn't work until it is unlocked to be able to use that & any other network.
