Volume control and microphone not working on iphone?

I have an iphone 4 & my volume control and microphone is useless on my iphone, it works fine on my ipad but only the music works on my iphone. Is it something wrong with my headphones or is it just that after the major updates iphone doesn't recognize it anymore?

I would try resetting your iPhone via iTunes. Make sure to back up your device before you reset or your data will be lost. Go to settings and turn on assist ice touch and change the volume like that. Or swipe up on your screen and adjust the volume. That doesn't work then your phone is ****. No 1 has the 4 anymore lol

  • IPhone got wet and home screen button/voice control not working? I was actually using hand sanitizer and it got into the charging opening of the iPhone. I thought I dried it out but now the home button does not work and every other time, the voice control randomly pops up. I tried putting the iPhone in rice to remove the moisture but only for a few hours (two hours at least). Should I try for 24 hours? Any other suggestions? Will apple store help repair this issue without erasing my pictures, videos or texts from my phone?
