Want to use my AT&T iPhone 5 in the Philippines?

I have an AT&T iPhone. I will be in the Philippines for two weeks and I'd like to use my iPhone. Whenever I go to the Philippines there are so many vendors that sell SIM cards. Can I just buy one and stick it in my phone? My phone is not unlocked. Also, if I do get a SIM card, do you get a new phone number?

Cheaper to buy a throw away cell phone. Yes, you get a different phone number depending on what SIM card you purchase for a cell phone.

All AT&T phones are locked -- meaning they can only use AT&T sim cards.

Throughout the years, I have brought to the Philippines various kinds of phones from the US (a few from AT&T) and have used them to text and call in the Philippines.

You can have your iPhone 5 unlocked in the US but it would be cheaper to do so in the Philippines.

And yes, local prepaid SIM cards are readily available all over the Philippines. Just buy one and you're good to go. Yup new local phone number. If you run out of load (to call and text), you can reload anywhere.

If you are unsure ask anbybody at a cellphone store. Also it would be wise to buy the same SIM card network company as those you are going to contact locally.
