What camera should I get?

I want to buy a camera that's much better quality than what my iPhone can take. It's for family photos photos with my partner and 1 year old boy mostly. I don't know anything about cameras so it confuses me a bit. Ideally it's a compact camera and my budget is up to £500

No camera will take better pictures than your iPhone unless you know how to use it - a better camera gives you more options and creates more opportunities but you have to know how to take them. Panasonic and Canon both make great compacts but you need to get your hands on them and see which feels most comfortable and which has the most intuitive controls. Taking pictures of young kids is often about catching the moment so I'd have a look at the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX80 - it's not a compact (it is small though) but it has good 4K video with the ability to extract decent stills. Jessops are selling them and they usually have a decent selection of things to play with.

Have a look at the Panasonic TZ 70.
