Assuming you are running iOS 6. You need to use redsn0w. Currently only a tethered jailbreak is out meaning the device must be booted by redsn0w from a computer. The device will boot normally without it but jailbroken apps like cydia and installous will not run but normal apps will still run. There's no way to jailbreak a device without downloading a jailbreaking software to a computer.
