What do you do when you've finished using iPhone apps?

I got a new iPhone 6S a couple of weeks ago (my first iPhone), and when I first got it I used to just close apps by clicking the home button. However I just found out that if I double-click the home button I can close apps by sliding them towards the top of the screen. So now I'm not sure what is the best way to do it, what difference does it make (if any)? What does everyone else do?

Just clicking the home button pauses the apps, which means they start quicker. So if there's one you want to use a lot just do that. Double clicking and sliding them up physically closes the app, which free's up memory and stops things running in the background which saves battery.

The only way to really close an app is with the double-click Home button method. Otherwise, the apps are still running in the background. That's usually not a problem except if you have a large number of apps running, which can often cause strange problems. Furthermore, some apps such as those that use GPS or the camera can put heavy use on your battery, even if they are not open and only running the background.

Home button doesn't close anything. If you are done using them for the time being, swipe them up as mentioned as it frees up resources, otherwise if using regularly you can leave open and just hit home button.

When you click the Home button you are just putting it in the background (freezing the app in essence).

When you are sliding up then you are closing them off.
