What does it mean to check in for a flight?
I have a flight in almost 24hrs. It's a Southwest flight & I got a email saying that I can check in within 24hrs of my flight. What will checking in on my phone vs checking in when I get to the airport? I only will have two bags to check in & two small carry-ons. I don't have a printer, I would just be checking in using my Southwest app on my iPhone
I always check in with my smart phone 24 hours before departure so I could get the top priority number in boarding, meaning I can board sooner than those behind me thus have more seats to choose as Southwest has an open seat policy. I can always get my boarding pass later at the airport right before departure, and check my bags at the same time. Should I wait to check in at the airport, almost every other passenger would have checked in ahead of me so I could only get a boarding number that allow me to board last thus left only with all the seats people don't want, ie middle seats, and if it's a full flight I might not be able to find any storage space for my carry on.
I can also choose to check in on my computer and print my boarding pass at the same time.
Check in just means you can you can accept the boarding pass on your phone now instead of having to wait to get to the airport. You can also technically check in that you have 2 bags for check in. When you get to the airport you will still have to wait in line to give the airline your bags but it would be easier to drop them off. And using your smart phone is ok to use for your ticket.
Normally you would print your boarding pass and skip the line, especially if you don't have bags.
You can also use your phone as a boarding pass at most airports.
But even though you have bags to check, and no printer, with SouthWest in particular, you get better choice of seat the sooner you check in.
