What does the "i" stand for in iOS, iMac, iPad, iPhone, iMessage etc? "Internet"?

It dosnt stand for anything. IOS stands for "I operating system". Its kind of like a brand. Like nike, it doesn't stand for anything But it represents a company.

Internet.

It stands for "Internet".

"Ken says that the "i" stands for "Internet",[6] but also represents the product as a personal and revolutionary device ('i' for "individuality" and "innovation")."

Originally, internet as in the iMac in 1998, but by the time the iPod debuted in 2001 it basically became so well known & associated with Apple products that it became branding. Of course it could not have meant internet for the iPod since it had none until 2007 when the iPod touch debuted.

So to repeat, in 1998 with the iMac, internet. Everything else, just brand recognition.

It doesn't stand for anything. It just makes it easier to trademark the names. You can't trademark a common noun like "phone" in most cases, but if you put a letter in front of it, it becomes something special that you can register as a trademark.

  • What does DNS stand for and what does it do? Like when you are on your iPhone and you go to connect to a wireless connection. And it says DNS right under router.
  • Is there a iPhone camera stand that clips onto a mic stand? I'm recording vocals, and I want to record myself close up with my iPhone. I have a regular boom microphone stand. The problem is, I don't know what to search for. My preference is something cheap on eBay.

  • IMac, iPad, iPhone, Mobileme, iCloud sync I have my iPad and iPhone calendar synced through iCloud. I googled how to sync it to my iCal on my iMac, and it says to go into system preferences and click the iCloud button under Internet & Wireless but mine says Mobile me. I was a little familar with Mobile me in school, but I know at school we had a password and had to pay for it and all the good stuff. anyways, can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong so I can get my iPad/iPhone calendars synced with my iCal on my iMac?
