What does unlocking an iphone do?
I'm going to buy an iphone 4s off my friend in a couple of days & he's connected to at&t. I was wondering if i "unlock" it, will i be able to connect it to virgin mobile?
Voids your warranty and makes Steve Job's roll in his grave
Yes, that's what unlocking does.
Unlocking a phone allows it to be used on any GSM carrier in the world. Assuming Virgin Mobile is GSM as well then yes you would be able use it on that network afterwards.
Oh & it does not void the warranty & incorrectly mentioned…
It allows you to use your iPhone on any carrier (GSM) worldwide. I don't believe Virgin is GSM so I don't think you can (it is CDMA).
Virgin mobile is CDMA so you can't use 2G on this phone. Maybe 3G may works.
best of all don't buy this phone if you can't make sure
