What happened to all the futuristic technologies we were promised?

In the 1950s 2014 was supposed to be a world full of flying cars, robots, moon bases, star travel, and underwater cities.

The only thing that truly impresses me are our flatscreen TVs, game consoles, computers, and our iPads and iPhones. What happened to the real 2014?

Are you confusing the fantasy 2014 with the "real" 2014 in which we're living?

No moon base? But we have organ transplants, artificial joints and vaccines for diseases that killed people by the millions. Smallpox is extinct. Polio is virtually no more.

Do you really want those idiots who drive cars, now, actually taking their antics into the skies over your home!

Robots now build your cars, televisions, computers and pads. What robots are you missing? The cartoon one from the Jetsons that dusted, served drinks and wise cracked with the family? I don't think cartoons are the best predictor of our technological future.

This IS the real 2014.

This IS the real 2014. All the things that never came to be are the "fake" 2014. Actually not having flying cars (or "personal helicopters") is probably good, as even with our somewhat advanced computer technology, trying to control all those vehicles in 3-d would be very very difficult.

Actually, there are robots, but they usually are in factories or sold as novelties. So-called "replicator" technology isn't too far ahead, and 3-d printers (sort of replicating the outside of things) is already a reality.

At least we don't have dinosaurs crushing Japanese cities.

  • What is the worst thing that happened to you all week? For me, I lost my iPhone… The wind blew my iphone out of my hand while my friend and I were driving on the freeway.
  • What happened to all the apps from iTunes that allowed you to download free music? I remember there were So many apps that allowed you to download free music from websites (like mp3Skull, beeMp3, etc). But when I searched for "Free Music Downloader" on the app store, they're all gone. There are no more apps that allowed me to do that. The only apps that came up were apps that downloaded videos to your iPhone, and apps that allowed you to convert youtube to mp3. Thats all. What happened to them?
  • What happened to all my pics? I have an iPhone 4s; I had over 1,000 pics. Now I have only 300. Where did my pics go? How can I get them back? How do I know if my pics were backed up?
  • What happened to all my emails? I was on my iPhone and something came up about a new Yahoo but I didn't ask for it and now all my emails have dissappeared!
