What happened to my iPhone D

I recently dropped my iPhone 4S and it cracked so I brought it to bestbuy where they gave me a refurbished one. So when I got home I I turned it on and to my shock and horror it had the same layout it had a year ago with old pics d apps and texts too. They were from 2012 and I had deleted them already. Please help I'm so confused as to what's happen we r going to take it back but until then I don't know what to do. I think it might have been the update that put it back a year or two but I'm not sure. Has this happened to you. 10 PTS to best detailed answer

Basically you haven't backed up all of your data since 2012, take it back to best buy so that they can get all your most recent stuff back on there. If they can't do it I would go to apple or see about just getting your old phone fixed.

I woke up in the morning, unplugged my iPhone and it still had 20%. The charger works on my iPod ect so its not the charger.
