A hairline crack is where something is cracked or broken but the material at the two sides of the crack is still tightly pressed together. It has no opening or notch, just a visible line where the break is.
It's the opposite of a crack where there's a split or gap opening up in something.
If it's in the context of an LCD screen or a touchscreen, a crack in the surface usually means internal damage to the grids of transparent conductive layers applied to the material - broken connections - so the display / touchscreen is likely compromised as well.
