What is a quality, simple, inexpensive stereo receiver?
I'm not looking for a home theater, surround sound system and only have 2 speakers.
I'm looking to take my parents Sony speakers from home and bring them to college with me. I want a receiver to replace their 15+ year old one. I just want a receiver that can take my laptop or iPhone and play it through the speakers with the option to add a subwoofer later.
Needs to be less than $200.
These are the speakers

Added (1). Would also be willing to consider just a simple stereo amp if that would work better.
Those are pretty good sounding speakers for the money - I've had experience with them and was pleasantly surprised. Sadly Sony isn't a good brand for stereo receivers though.
Here is a model that I've had a lot of positive experience with that I can recommend…

This is the version with a phono input, which I recommend over it's lower priced brother. I recommend it as they are built pretty solid and are reliable. My experience is with customer returns (for any reason, including "borrowing" for the weekend or summer) and most were just fine. The remote even has bass and treble control buttons. It does not have a line level subwoofer output, but speaker level is available.
If you have to go with a home theater receiver, then take a look at this…

Nice, basic, clean sound and plenty of inputs. Also has loudness compensation and a midnight mode that automatically turns on loudness compensation (automatic bass boost at low volume). It uses hybrid amplifiers, but they are clean sounding and have really come of age.
Topping TP22 (2 x 25 watts T-amp), $87,
The Sherwood RX 4503 is a 2.1 receiver in other words you can add a sub woofer later on to your two speakers no i phone play though… But you can always just use the headphone jack and a 3.5 stereo to rca cord…
Kenwood makes a few. To run 2 speakers in stereo you don't need bells and whistles. I'm guessing you have the availability to look online.
- Would this stereo car deck allow me to play music from my iPhone 5 in high quality? I don't want to use CDs anymore and my current car deck doesn't have USB functionality. I want to play music without using the transmitters that usually have bad quality. Would this do the trick: http://m.futureshop.ca/defaultpage.aspx?lang=en#/catalog/productdetails.aspx?ajax=true&sku=10220448&lang=en-CA I'm open to other product suggestions as well. Willing to spend in the hundreds.
- Why does my iPhone receive good quality videos as bad quality videos? So I recently met a famous guy in concert and when I got a picture wth him I was getting a video and my friend used her phone to video it. So she sent it to me and it was like terrible quality and the video was like little with a huge black border around it. But yet it looks perfectly fine on her phone? How do I fix it? Whenever I try to get video editing apps it always says error & only with that particular video. I have an iPhone 5c, and so does my friend.
- Stereo receiver with Iphone? My sister is looking for a stereo or home theater receiver that not only allows music streaming, but also to control the receiver's functions by app (in effect replacing the remote). We're trying to keep the price as low as possible. Any suggestions?
- Sound quality in 128kbps vs 256kbps in car stereo? I have a 16GB iPhone and my iTunes library is well over 30GB. I want to download all the music into my phone and the only way I can do that is by choosing to transfer the music as 128kbps (or 192). Will I hear a HUGE difference in sound (treble, bass, etc.) when I'm listening to my music in the car? My car has JBL Green Edge which is the upgraded stereo system for Toyota.
