What is 'back side illumination'?

Such as on the iPad mini or iPhone 5 camera's… What does it mean?

Probably the built-in LED flash.

A back side-illuminated sensor (BSI) is an imaging sensor for digital cameras with a different layout from other sensors that allows more light to be collected at the pixel level. The resulting images have less digital noise, and low-light performance can be improved by as much as a stop or more.

  • What are the clear dots on the right side of iPhone screens? I keep seeing people with a dot on the left side of their iPhones. It can do stuff like lock the phone. I have never seen this before and I was wondering if it was a jailbreak feature.
  • Left side of my iphone 4 screen isn't working? Nothing on the left side can be pressed! I did a hard reset (pressing the home and off button) but it didn't work. Then i completely reset it, but there's no difference. I don't have an apple store where i live, how can i fix my phone? Btw, i can still do the *slide to unlock* which is odd, considering that that requires use of the screen's left side
  • Right side of my earpod won't work for music on my iPhone 5? It isn't broken because whenever I plug the new earpods into my laptop both sides work. They both even work on my iPhone when I'm in a call. When I listen to music, the right side, which is the remote side won't work, but the remote still works. The left works fine. Anyone else experiencing this problem? And how may I fix this? It works when i'm calling but not for music.
  • My left eye hurts when I move it from side to side and up and down? I was on my iPhone last night at 11:00 pm, and I was reading a small print book for class today. When I move my left eye left and right and side to side to look at something, they hurt. I have pretty bad eyesight, an wear thick-ish classes. Is this because I was straining them or?
