It's nothing; don't panic. There are no iPhone viruses yet.
Simply, a researcher has, alegedly, discovered a vulnerability in the iPhone that would allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code on it by sending 512 specially crafted SMS messages to it. Theoretically, this can be used to create a virus for the iPhone. In practice, nobody but the researcher knows how to exploit the vulnerability. So, there aren't any viruses using it.
The advice some stupid journalist has given, to turn off the iPhone if you get an SMS containing a small square character is utterly idiotic. First, there are no viruses to be afraid of - at least not yet. Second, even if such a virus is created, the message could display anything (or even nothing) - not just a square character. Third, by the time this happens, the phone would be already infected and turning it off won't protect and won't cure it - at best, it would stop it from infecting other iPhones.
Most likely nothing is going too happen just like Y2K, and the coficker virus on April 1st live your normal life and if you do get a message like you are supposed too then just turn off your phone, also if you really are paranoid then turn off the phones network and Wi-Fi and if you really are scared turn off the phone completely but my advise is live your life normally.
