What is the device that the Ghost Adventures crew use to tell what the ghost is saying?

What is the device that the Ghost Adventures people use if they want to see what the ghost is saying? I know it is a little black device, and it has a built-in dictionary. When the ghosts speak, the voice of the machine sounds like a robot. What is this device called, and is there an iPhone app similar to that device?

Ghost Box or Franks Box it was created to pick up real time EVP- Electronic Voice Phenomena. The basis of his device was to scan AM frequencies constantly in a sweeping fashion (back and forth on the dial) in order to create 'white noise' (which is a theoretical basis for the existence of EVP's). The received noise was then fed into a 'echo chamber' on the box which enabled spirits to manipulate the noise to form words, and the output is fed into a speaker, thus allowing communications in real-time. It's either some sort of random word generator or a device that scrolls through the radio station and picks up snippets of words. Obviously it is not an actual ghost talking.

There are a load of apps that help you play at pretending you are detecting or communicating with ghosts. <is there an iPhone app> I'm always amused when I find people who believe that hardware manufacturers build magic ghost-detecting abilities into their motherboards, just hoping that some intrepid software developer will come along to take advantage of it. Ghost apps are entertainment for gullible adolescents, they don't detect invisible supernatural beings that can't even be proven to exist in the first place.
