What is Twitter? How do you use it?

I keep getting "invitations" to join someone on Twitter. How do you use Twitter? How do you join? What technology do you need? Iphone? Cell phone? Internet? I don't have text messaging.

Twitter is a social media site where you make "tweets" (statuses). You follow other people to see their tweets and they can choose to follow you back or not. To join go to twitter.com. You need either a computer or a smartphone, it's okay if you don't have texting but you will need an internet connection to tweet.

  • Why can't i use emoji's in my twitter name or bio? I have an iphone 4s (with the latest ios version) and i can pretty much use emoji's everywhere, except in my twitter name or bio! Other people use emoji's in their name, but when i try it stays for a second and then it won't show up. Any way to solve this?
  • When you use the amazon cloud on you iphone does that use data? Okay so for Christmas I got an iphone 4s and I have music on the amazon cloud that I want to listen to on my iphone. I have to be careful with how much data I use (especially since my brother can go a bit overboard) So I was just wondering whether just listening to the music on the amazon cloud uses data or not.
  • When you change your twitter name does it sign you out from the iPhone app? My mom took away my ipod and computer and I changed my twitter name during so she doesn't read every one of my tweets (she probably saw a lot of them already). I know that when you change your username if signs you out of the computer, but does it sign you out of the iPhone/iPod app too? (I can't even delete the twitter app or sign out on my ipod because I don't know where she put it)
  • Twitter SMS & Twitter App Mobile Notifications? I have and Iphone 4, currently up to date, etc etc. When I turn on mobile notifications on twitter I receive both the SMS/404-04 text notification and a push notification from my twitter mobile app. I would prefer to receive the notifications from my app only and not SMS. It would be easier to distinguish tweet from normal texts. Plus The SMS notifications leave my texts list messy. I can't figure out how to do this anywhere. Solutions?
