What makes an unlocked iPhone?
I was just wondering, if I simply take out the sim card out of my iPhone 4 does that mean that the phone is unlocked?(because you can put another carrier's sim card into it)
No what makes a phone unlocked is having it jailbroken for example. With a jailbroken iphone there are so many different things that you can change about the phone itself(including the sim carrier card) just because you can swap out sim cards does not mean that your phone is unlocked
An unlocked iPhone is an iPhone that can be used with any GSM carrier. A GSM carrier is a carrier that use SIM cards. If you were to buy an iPhone 4 from AT&T it would be locked to AT&T and you would not be able to unlock it unless you bought an unlock service from eBay or some other place. Once unlocked you would be able to use that AT&T iPhone 4 on other carriers like T-mobile, and other GSM carriers. Without the unlock only AT&T SIM cards would work with the iPhone.
No… Its basically something in code that allows other carrier SIMs to work in it. So simply taking out a SIM doesn't mean it is unlocked.
