What's a good laptop for a software developer and where's the best place to buy?
I have a budget of around 1500 pounds, I'm studying computer science and my laptop is outdated and very slow.
I want to be able to develop mobile apps for android and iPhones and I want to be able to code and run programs in java, python and c, I also want to be able to use it for Web development.
I was thinking of a Microsoft surface Pro 5 with an i7 processor, what would you recommend and what shops online or offline do you find have the best value.
1. To actually do some work I recommend a huge monitor and a proper keyboard. Laptops or tablets have neither, so if you need this to be mobile, plan your budget so you can buy a monitor, too.
2. To develop iPhone apps, you need a Mac. While you can technically write apps using Cordova or other multi-platform solutions, you need a Mac to actually test-run the app on an iPhone.
Writing C, Python and Java apps, or developing websites doesn't require much horsepower. You can do it on a Raspberry Pi if you want.
The only thing you listed that does require a semi-fast computer is android development; Genymotion is awesomely fast even on an average PC though.
FYI, no such thing as a Surface Pro 5. The latest release dropped the numbering from the name, so it is simply, a Surface Pro.
I have a Surface Pro 4 with the i7 and love it. I have 3 external 25" monitors hooked up to the SP4 plus a wireless keyboard and mouse. It is my desktop replacement.
- Where is the best place to buy a cheap iphone 4? I currently have an Evo 3d and HATE it. I got it for an upgrade back in march. I have been searching on eBay for a lower priced iPhone 4 but not all the prices are cutting it for me… All i wanna know is. Is there a website where they sell iPhone 4's for a lower price off contract and with a clean ESN?
- Where is a good place to buy a cute, but good iPhone 5s case? I want a cute case, but I also want to make sure that it will protect my phone if I drop it. Right now I have an OtterBox Defender case, but it is just so big and bulky.
- Is tbere any major différence between thé iPhone 6 and the 6s? Whooppeee is Xmas again and my daughter wants new 2nd hand) iPhone… 2 years ago almost bought her 5 before i réaliséd that it was 5s she wanted ( cos thé 5 sucks?) And I don't want to screw up this year…
- Is ''Iphone'' software only or hardware and software? I've never had an Iphone. I always see it anounced in an absolutely black device, such as this one: http://pective.com/m/iphone-5 I wonder whether, when you're going to buy one, you go to the apple store and buy the whole thing, or look for a Nokia or Sony smartphone and then go to the Apple website and buy and download the software into your device.
