What's the best weather prediction website?

What's the best website for weather prediction? I use weather.com and my Iphone and I find that whenever they say its going to rain, it ends up being sunny. I find that they are inaccurate a lot. Especially if they say its going to rain.

No weather site is going to be 100% accurate. One of the best is the National Weather Service at http://www.weather.gov

The best weather prediction for your area will be that of e.g. The airport nearest to your home. You can find that by googling the keywords METAR and the ICAO code for that airport.

The reason is: Weather prediction is first based on worldwide weather observation gathered by the World Meteorological Organization. Those data are then fed into computer models like the Global Forecast System of the NOAA in the USA. That is then made available to various providers that add local knowledge for their different clients.

For example, the aviator would like to know the cloud ceiling while the fisherman would rather know the expected wave height.

The met officer at the airport will then know e.g. That if there's a high pressure and the general pattern is for a sunny day, the proximity of hills and a large lake will cause early fog patches in the morning. That is valuable local knowledge that is only added by local people.

But be aware that such forecast for aviators and seafarers will tell you only the probabilities. For example, you may read a TAF (aviation forecast) that says: 1418 PROB30 TS, which means between the hours 2 PM and 6 PM UTC time, there's a 30 percent chances that thunderstorms may develop.

You will never get the accurate weather because it is not, nor will it ever be, an accurate science.

Last summer, coming back from north Norway, I called the met office to know if I could fly the last leg of my trip with my little aircraft. The guy said on the phone: "Hang on, we've just seen something developing over north Denmark. We don't know if it will come towards Sweden or the Oslo fjord (where I was). Call us back in half an hour!"

Which I did and they said: "Okay, if you take off now, you'll reach your destination before the bad weather arrives, but you have to take off now!"

Just to show how fast the weather can change!
