What's the catch with Virgin Mobile's Beyond Talk Plans?

How the heck does Virgin Mobile keep its prices so low? Is there a catch to Virgin Mobiles low plan costs?

I'm thinking of getting the iPhone 5, and from what I see, you're paying for the whole phone upfront, but you only have to pay $35 a month for unlimited text and data and 300 mins (I rarely even use 100 mins), but I don't wanna get anything that will make me worry financially. So is it really as simple as it sounds?

Pay for the whole phone cost ($550, so you actually get $100 off from the original $650) and pick a plan of $35,$45, or $55 a month, and it's contract free.

Oh, one more thing, how can virgin mobile also provide an iPhone 5 for such a low cost, $100 off its competitors price? Is it because you have to pay for the total cost upfront instead of over the course of 2 years?

It is very simple, and I would recommend it for a user like you, but here's the catch: The data gradually slows down.

Sure it is technically unlimited, but after about 2.5 GB your data will be noticeably slower.

However, this won't stop me from getting a new VM phone in the coming months.

Really, 2.5 GB is a great deal for the price.

And yes, the discount is because you are paying for the phone upfront. (Think of it like no interest)

Hope This Helps!

  • Which do you recommend? Iphone 5s Smart Plans or Iphone 5s Globe Plans? I'm confused. I've heard a lot of negative comments about globe internet speed and secret extra charges. But it seems that there are more recommendations to go for globe iphone plans. What's wrong with Smart? Which is more advisable for first timers in mobile plans?
  • What is the catch with the Virgin Mobile iPhone plan? I mean, an iPhone 5 for $30 bucks a month and no contract? I don't feel like drowning in hidden fees, so can someone tell me what the catch is? Oh, and I know I'll have to buy an iPhone 5. I'm just wondering if there are limits like "$10 for every mb over your data limit" or something. I've never owned a smartphone before, and this sounds perfect, unless there's a crippling catch.
  • Virgin mobile vs straight talk? Just gimme your opinion. I don't know which do go with. I want an iPhone through one. I don't know about data caps. If you know your stuff answer this.
  • Virgin Mobile iphone or Straight talk iphone? I heard lots of negative reivews on Straight talk iphone and that if youre planning to get a straight talk, you should get a android instead. I seen lots of reviews how their iphone can't connect to the data/really slow and have bad customer service. Although they offer a good unlimited plan, which carriers should i choose to get the iphone? Virgin mobile or Straight talk? I'm planning to buy full price iphone 5 in walmart
